The courage of convictions.
Collin Kaepernick |
These men of honor are my true heroes: Collin Kaepernick, Muhammad Ali and Kizza-Besigye Wrn , they are a living testimony that those who stand up for their convictions will always prevail.
Difficult as it is ,according to a philosopher "of what worth are convictions that bring not suffering? In fact Nike put it crystal clear on a commercial " Believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything ".
The pains they have gone through are unequivocal, think of all the outrageous reasons their detractors have used to dehumanize them!.
Muhammad Ali |
Muhammad Ali sacrificed his legendary status in order to pursue the fight for civil rights of the black Americans. The punishment was he was stripped of all his boxing titles and banned from the sport for years.
Colin Kaepernick sacrificed a lucrative sports career to become an advocate for the rights of the minorities against police abuse and unfair criminal justice system.
Dr. Kizza-Besigye |
Dr. Kizza-Besigye sacrificed his medical career and privileges in Museveni government in order to pursue his conviction of freeing Uganda from gun rule.
For Collin Kaepernick, despite threats of his sport career being terminated by the league ,he stubbornly stack by his symbolic stance of taking a knee during football matches. Eventually he like Muhammad Ali was banned from participating in the sports he earned a living from. That didn't deter him from his determination to fight the unequal justice system.
Glory be to God, today every police officer, army officer and politician who ridiculed him are performing the same symbolic act of taking a knee during Justice for George Floyd protests.
Friends, this is a reminder that standing up for what you believe in ,is easy when what you believe is also popular. But the true test is when what you believe ends up being discomforting and controversial in the public discourse.
