The day UPDF swallowed the humble pie

Finally the curtains have been drawn down after this madness of M7 illegal deployment of our military in invading South Sudan. I have been at the forefront of oppossing this unilateral decision by the dictator to prop up another dictator, the battle of reasons has won the day and I thank God for giving me a sound mind to articulate against megalomaniac rulers of our times.

For Ugandans at large this occupation of South Sudan reaped many family losses in parents, sons and daughters two years later the regime has not accounted for personnel and equipment balance sheet of this war. Many like me advocated for a diplomatic and peaceful arbitration from the onset, if push went to shovel we would have performed a peace keeping role instead we over stepped our mandate and become an invasion force in a sovereign state. Uganda will ultimately pay the credibility price going forward, we went in and destroyed lives, killed citizens, used banned ammunitions, chemically destroyed crops and livestock and employed scorched earth war policy in Jonglei not a good impression we left.

Now citizens are going to incur another cost of war retribution, because I am certain the AU report on the conflicts found UPDF culpable for war crimes. In DRC we humiliated, annihilated and plundered that country and $10 billion fine still awaits us. I warmly welcome the soldiers who by Gods mercy survived and made it back but my heart is in pain for those the government didn't have the moral obligations to give a decent burial, the MIA , the wounded and those who are still POW.

Ugandan troops (UPDF) in South Sudan’s Jonglei State are withdrawing as announced last week. The withdrawal of the Ugandan troops is required under the terms of South Sudan's recent peace agreement.

Allan Mugume, UDPF information personnel told Radio Tamazuj that the soldiers are excited to be leaving as they have spent a lot without seeing their families back in Uganda.
“Yes, we are going to leave South Sudan, that is the truth and already the first trip has been taken and the second trip will be taken soon from now,” Mugume said. He was speaking after the cancellation of a farewell party that was called off for untold reasons. A first convoy was already seen leaving Bor last week and are leaving this week.

Another Ugandan soldier who declined to be named said, “We have really done a very big job to President Salva Kiir and the entire people of South Sudan but they are not appreciating us for that.”
He said they were expecting Kiir’s government to have provided them with allowances on top of their salaries but they did not get anything. “But I don’t know maybe they have been giving our commanders some money and that money was used to buy food for us, I don’t know!” he stressed.
Earlier reports suggested that the Ugandan force in Jonglei was about the size of a battalion.

According to South Sudan's new peace agreement, which Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni signed as guarantor, the deadline for completion of UPDF withdrawal from Jonglei was 10 October, but the Ugandan government announced the beginning of the withdrawal only after that date.
At a press conference in Uganda last week, a top army commander said the withdrawal would be completed in November. It was not disclosed what prevented them from withdrawing by the scheduled time.

The first contingent of Ugandan troops was flagged-off on Tuesday in Bor town of Jonglei state, as part of the phased withdrawal process of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces from South Sudan.
The troop withdrawal is in response to the IGAD mediated peace deal signed in Addis Ababa which stipulates the withdrawal of foreign forces from South Sudan.
South Sudan government spokesman Michael Makuei told AFP, news agency that ‘there is an agreement between the government of South Sudan and the government of Uganda that the UPDF withdraw from South Sudan back to Uganda.’
Makue said the UPDF troop withdrawal begun on Tuesday. He said the UPDF soldiers would move from Bor to Juba, where they will link up with their collegues and proceed to Uganda.
The Ugandan troops have been in South Sudan since December 2013 when fighting broke out between two the government and the SPLA in opposition.
Col Kayanja Muhanga, the Commander of the UPDF Contingent in South Sudan was quoted by the media in Uganda saying another contingent is expected to leave South Sudan by the end of October.

Patrick Otim What was mad about saving a friendly anti-Kony government that was on the verge of collapse and preventing a power grab by a known Kony sympathiser and pro-Khartoum turncoat? And hasn't the objective been achieved? I honestly don't see what there is to chest-thump about.

Moses Atocon Atyekwo Nonsense ,without Riek Machar Teny Kony would still be in Uganda.

David Mai Tang It was Riek Machar who was anti Kony and responsible for Uganda being in Yambio City of Western Equtoria upto now hunting for Kony and not Salva Kiir and his Dinka elites. You must be useless who can't understand a thing and have not been following IG...See More

Harrison Opondo Obiajulu Someone can really be silly. Patrick Otim, remember M7 is only doing things basing on his selfish interest of greed. They r simply destroying future relationship between the two nations because South Sudan and Uganda must continue whether the two current leaders r there or not.
Dictatorship is an old style of rule which can't work for long in the Morden times .

Bears in mind that the number of UPDF soldiers who were killed during the war is approximately 27615 according to our sources on the frontline in jonglei and other parts of South Sudan including juba . Go back in distressed mood . But u are known in the whole world as money loving people than any other nation in the continent of Africa and other continents as all.

Kamou Peter Asilaza Vey good, now left salva kiir vanurable

Max A Anyuru I like these South Sudanese, the way they are on each other's throats. Independence still far away!

Muganga Fred Max You mean Obote must be fought wherever he is dead or alive?!

Max A Anyuru Muganga Fred we still have the hate preachers in very high officers. Do you remember that some ethnicities in this country were labeled as killers. Very fresh. Hate speeches

Muganga Fred It is alleged that somebody once said that a good me is a dead one....I accepted it whole heartedly because it is not the truth...Max haters are sick. You are not killers at all accept it because it is not the truth it will stop bothering you brother.

Reginald Tindimubona Are they retreating after being defeated I'm southern Sudan! Shame on you after wasting national tax payers money on the useless war!

Muganga Fred But tax payers money is wasted world over because it is nobody's money..Tindimubona how much of that money was yours?!

Reginald Tindimubona Mr Muganga what ever i contribute as tax multiplied by every one as an entity is what you guys enjoy while nothing in return is offered to the poor tax payers. Including you though you may be a beneficially! So sad.

John Mukasa Museveni dismissed? That is a turn up in the books.

David Obote Ugandan troops will remain in disguise in S. Sudan. Kiir is the nrm lapdog who owes billions of dollars to the war Lord. S.Sudan is merely uganda ' s cash cow
